Tools: Ripping 8/4 White Oak

I need to rip some 8/4 white oak ... actual thickness is 1-3/4 inches and the length will be between 6 and 8 feet. I've never ripped hardwood that thick before so I dunno if my table saw has enough beans to do the job. Do ya think I can get away with it with my 1-1/2 HP belt drive contractors saw?
