Yes 580mm is pretty wide, but of course the waterline beam measured 100mm above the keel is only 508mm and the actual waterline beam with my weight is close to 490mm. The 580mm part never gets near the water. It is just there to fit the requirements of the TK1 class.

In fact 500mm waterline beam is very close to the waterline beam of my sea kayak, but a lot more of the length of the sea kayak is close to that width so it is much more stable. The TK1 has a SF of 73 and the sea kayak is 92.
