Hi
Drill hole into end pour or internal stem if you have one.
Insert dowel of correct size.
Get hole saw and drill two wheels of wood and glue together so that you have a wheel about 2" thick.
Drill hole for dowel in from the edge to the centre.
Place wheel on dowel.
You will have to shape your bow so that the wheel sits into the bow flush without gaps, so dry fit the wheel, draw the lines and cut out with a sharp blade. Then glue all together.
When dry round over the edges of the wheel into a ball shape if you wish or drill through the centre and use to attach tie downs or cable lock etc.
As you can guess I've had the same trouble.
Kayak took a nose dive from the top of the car onto the roadside in a storm.
Cheers

: Hi,

: Through an accident yesterday, a swell picked up my kayak and tossed my Pygmy
: Coho, bow first, into a metal buoy. The result is that impact with the
: buoy ripped off about a 1/2 inch of the pointed nose (where the deck meets
: the bow) of the kayak. The buoy, of course, was no worse for the enounter.

: So...any suggestions on how should I proceed with the repair?

: All I can think of is to...

: - sand down the area and a little beyond the damaged area
: - using wood flour + epoxy build a new nose/point (as if rebuilding the shape
: with putty)
: - fiberglass over the point;
: - varnish

: I realize that the kayak will never look the same, but then this is not a
: coffee table...

: Many thanks for any ideas and suggestions.

: Robert
