True!!! Honestly, I've always done it that way and never thought to change what's always worked. I do it the same for bare wood as I do for 'glassed wood. Still I would definately thin the first coat a bit more. In my opinion it lays on better and then the other coats are varnish-to-varnish and somehow it seems to flow better over itself.
