Early Friday morning with the temperature about freezing I drove by a local lake with my daughter and the mist from the warm water was spectacular. As the sun came up it was almost mystical, it was only about 2 feet high above the water but extremely thick.. We got up early Saturday to enjoy a paddle in the mist but the day was warmer and the sky was overcast resulting in no mist. We did see a young Caspian tern still being fed by a parent and two young western grebe still riding on their mothers back. Winter may come a little soon for these late hatches.
