: Early Friday morning with the temperature about freezing I drove by a local
: lake with my daughter and the mist from the warm water was spectacular. As
: the sun came up it was almost mystical, it was only about 2 feet high
: above the water but extremely thick.. We got up early Saturday to enjoy a
: paddle in the mist but the day was warmer and the sky was overcast
: resulting in no mist. We did see a young Caspian tern still being fed by a
: parent and two young western grebe still riding on their mothers back.
: Winter may come a little soon for these late hatches. Link to pictures

Just got back from my first BASK (Bay Area Sea Kayakers) event: the annual pilgrimage to Mendocino. It was 100 degrees coming through the Anderson Valley wine country, and in the 60s on the coast, with bright sun and bumptious seas. That's fall in NorCal. Summer is often gloomy, foggy, dank, and dark. Come out west for some good winter paddling!

Photo shows a BASK expert toying with the surf.
