Strip: Unusual coaming lip build *LINK* *Pic*

As a consequence of building a poorly shaped cockpit on my Greenlander Night Heron(too long a story) I found it extremely hard to wrap strips around it to form a lip as described in Nick's book. Even with a heat gun, the strips would just keep breaking.
Then it occurred to me that I could just lay strips transversely(two layers) across the top of the coaming riser and then trim inside and outside of the coaming opening. I used hot glue to glue the strips to the coaming riser and carpenters glue between the cove and bead strips. After fairing everything together I applied two layers of 4 oz cloth to everything. The result came out more attractive than I expected.

I wouldn't recommend this as a preferred method, but it does work.
