: My question is what are the pro's and con's of a recessed coaming. I've done
: some searches and I can't seem to find anything other then a recessed
: coaming is better for rolling because you can lean back better. Are there
: any disadvantages?

some advantages:
-lower profile, so less to catch and bump the paddler, or the paddle, or waves.
-lower coaming allows more upper body bending or movement in all directions.
- lower profile, so heavy objects such as you sitting on top or yak being rescued or yak rolling over down beach, heh heh, does not put full wt only on coaming but can possibly spread wt out.

some disadvantages:
-lower, so more constricting on anything below it. 1" drop means 1" less space at entry. A tight fitted boat with a recess added means additional restriction. Big thighs get creases on top, more straight leg req'd.
-harder to construct. if recessed, easy to make recess too small for quick skirt attachment.
