The difference in a real kayak dealer and a sporting goods store that sells kayaks (REI) isn't the boats they sell, it's the understanding of the products they sell. The real kayak store likely uses the products they sell and know what works and what doesn't. The sporting goods salesperson might have seen the products in use but the odds are they havn't tried then themselves and have no idea what works and what doesn't.
