Yes 29 lbs was better than I hoped for. What I did was plane my boards down to 5/8 then riped the gunnels and stringers to their plan size of .75 for stringers and 1.5 for gunnels. I also kept the epoxy to the smallest glue joint that was practical. I did this by using a Popsicle stick to form the smallest fillet I could. I used oak planed to .25 inch for floor boards.

I was the only skin boat and GP paddle at the race. Here in Mississippi only a few have even seen skin on frame kayaks. I enjoy being some what traditional.

I appreciate your interest West. Are you thinking of building the Nikumi 19? It is a great way to get in a baidarka for less.
