Yea, I kept hearing things about long boats being faster and yet I read a few peoples comments that contradicted it. So I created a model in my software and then let the software scale the length of the boat. It was very interesting and not what I expected. Long boats are faster for the same amount of effort at the faster speeds. Faster than most of us paddle, me for sure! At slower speeds the shorter boats were actually faster for the same amount of effort. So as someone said, it depends on the motor power the boat and if it can sustain the faster speeds that determines if longer is better.

Here is what I found. I created some graphs to it to show the differences. I am no expert and I learn new things all the time, but I found it interesting enough I want to so this with some other factors of boat design.
