: Daan,
: North america has a much greater diversity of trees than Europe.
: And, unfortunately, many trees get names that are not related to
: their genus.
: We have two families of poplars. One is "populus" which
: are upland trees some of which grow in the mountains but the
: family, in general, does not produce much desireable lumber.
: The other poplar is "lirodendrum tulipflora". Called
: "tulip tree", because it has a tulip-like flower,and
: "tulip poplar",or "yellow poplar". It is
: also called "the lumber tree" because it grows fast,
: achieves heights of 100 feet or more and can produce large
: amounts of straight-grained lumber. That is probably what you
: have. It is used for painted funiture because it is very bland.
: And it is not very rot resistant so make certain yours stays
: well sealed.

Charlie and Mike,

I have to ask the firm where I bought it what kind of poplar it is.
I don't think it is the yellow poplar because the poplar trees we have here don't grow flowers.
I think it is black poplar a fast growing tree. I don't know from others that they use it for strip
building but I would give it a try.
This poplar is not rot resistant but that will not be a problem for epoxy-wood-core I think.
My boards were milled for in home use as ceiling or floor bords.
When I milled my strips I found out that there is vary much grow strain in the planks.
They were very straight but my strips krinkled very much. Some times they
bend to the left, sometimes to the right but with a little heat from the paint stripper
I get them how I want them.

Thanks for the message
Daan
