I have made three this way, (although the third one was the right size for my one year old granddaughter and at that age, she assumed it was a teething aid).

One of the things I like about this method is that you start with a 90mm x 25mm board and very little of the timber finishes up as shavings and sawdust. I used Paulownia for most of the paddle and it weighs just 21oz or 600 grams.
