I use heavier poly and piles of duct tape too, works fine, for awile till it starts to leak . Same for shrink wrap, works for awile, till it starts to leak, don't wanna be too far from shore when that happens, it's a mad rush to get into shallow water before it fills and sinks :)

Btw, carry a razor blade, it's a whole lot easier to rip off the partially filled cover than it is to try to empty the water.

Another btw, this is a temporary cover to test to see if they boat's shape is right before you invest in a real cover. Easy to change things before it's permanantly covered and shrink wrap it again to test it. It is not a permanant cover.
