Thanks for the replies; and btw, those are three very nice kayaks.

The wood coamings I've seen, previously, were laminated rings. The WRC I've been using is dried, and doesn't bend too well, even with the heatgun. I think I'll try the white oak or ash. I have all winter, so am perfectly positioned to 'test the waters', Ha! But I rather like the example Etienne posted - with the glued strips echoing the deck design. As long as it's adequately strengthened with FG/epoxy, why not?
