I've done it the same way with West 105/207, an overnight cure is all that's normally required.

I suspect too much clamping pressure for the failure of the joint. Epoxy needs some certain thickness to achieve it's strength, if it's over clamped, too much clamp pressure, you can force too much epoxy out of the joint leaving not enough for a strong joint. It requires consistant pressure for a glued joint, but not like using conventional wood glues.
