Nick has a great method of getting clean edges using green tape - to use it for the coaming lip you would have to do it in a separate step for each piece of CF.

You put the tape over the previous strip at the end, then start the next piece of cloth just overlapping the tape, so that the ugly edge is on the tape. When the epoxy is green (set but not hard - you can still dent it with your thumbnail) you carefully cut the cloth just on the edge of the tape and pull the tape up.

Repeat for each piece, and you will have clean, straight edges for all the overlaps.

Look at the video at about 5:30 and you will see what I mean, albeit on the edge of the riser, not the lip.
