Me too. The lightest endpour is none. I am unconvinced that end pours accomplish anything worthwhile that can't be done lighter and with better control by an internal cedar block of some sort . . . Allan Edie

It didn't occur to me to build my stripper without wood stems, which were very long with an elegant elliptical curve. Probably just as well, because they made it easy to get the proper shape during stripping. They weren't particularly difficult to carve, probably less risky than pouring epoxy, and a bit cheaper too, but took a few more hours. Since it's a canoe they can be seen; they look purtier than frozen . . . er, goop! Wish I'd thought to tart up the inside with some carving though.

On an earlier ply boat with a straight stem I glued a half-thickness stem to each sheer plank and beveled them, which made assembling the boat a snap. I wouldn't have tried that trick if the stem had been curved though.

In many cases the design and shape of the boat determines the best method of doing things, and that applies to more than the stems.
