shape it with a heat gun

I've tried this a number of times and never got a dry western red cedar strip to accept a bend.
Messing with a heat gun, trying not to burn my hands (oven mitts??) and then charring the wood...
Obviously I'm missing something, or the strip needs to be moistened or???

It seems to work for everybody else, though!
