I think that it's a good idea to have her learn, but I think that the critical skill wouldn't be counting squares on graph paper as much as it would be learning drafting skills with a t-square, architect's rule, and a 30-60-90 triangle. And for that you don't really need graph paper. Then the trick becomes how to use a batten to draw a fair curve...
