I had good success getting the cloth to wrap around the edge of the paddle by applying the epoxy to the wood, waiting about 20 minutes, and then laying on the cloth and wetting it out with more epoxy. The first application of epoxy was sticky enough to help the cloth stay in place.
My concern was that applying 'fresh' epoxy over 'uncured' epoxy might cause problems.
I found a notation in the One Ocean Building Manual that says, "...if you apply the filler coat before the previous one gels, the fresh epoxy dissolves it...
Hopefully my timing was OK.
