I don't think you'll see many good sea kayaks with the screwed-on strap handles on the deck. What boat are you outfitting?

Stellar Kayaks, for one, would disagree with you. They use strap handles on all of their kayaks and surf skis. Heck, strap handles are about all you see on surf skis which are designed for rough water entries. You're seeing them more on commercial sea kayaks. All of the expedition sea kayaks from Seabird have straps. You only see the toggles on their more traditional Greenland and British-style boats.

I've been using them on my own sea kayaks for the past couple years. My clients who race started using them. I like them. They're easy to grab and with the semi-rigid rubber construction they haven't twisted an arm off. I l also ike that they don't bang around on the deck/hull like toggles. I do have to keep reminding people that they are not carry handles as most paddlers I know always carry their plastic boats by the toggles/handles.

Some advance planning is required as the ends are nearly unreachable once the deck is bonded to the hull. Instead of trying to fish washer and nuts to each handle. I bond stainless steel T-nuts to the underside of deck. Be sure to lay a few extra laminations of glass in the ends where the handles will lie. I've also screwed them into solid wood blocks.
