In Response To: Material: The woodworkers store/Rockler and Poplar (Dale Frolander)
: Speaking of poplar, why don't people use it for kayak building? It is a light
: color wood that has a hint of the color green in it. It looks like it
: would be easy to work with and is light weight. I bought the piece to play
: around with since it is cheap ($2.70/bd ft minus 40%), and to see how it
: looks with epoxy on it.
I used it on the deck of my Sea Spirit. It is easy to work with, clear, and takes well to epoxy. The green color will turn brownish after a while. The wood ends up a light blonde color after epoxy, glass and varnish.
