In our shop, we have been making paddles known for the combination of stregnth and light wieght. When we laminate Geenland paddles we use clear White Pine for the shaft, reserve the Cedar for the blades, and tip them in hardwood. If you use Cedar for the shaft you need to make it thicker to allow for the lesser strength wood. We do not like the use of glass, it ruins the feel of wood. AL
