I think that might depend on the purity of the product. I recall clearly when I had a sailboat with an alcohol stove - most all alcohols I got, wether for stove use or for cleaning - would leave a residue. I have, on the other hand, successfully thinned epoxy with acetone and applied it. It worked fine. You can test the alcohol by putting about 1/2 cup in a glass container. If there is nothing left when it evaporates off, it's clean.
