Hi Greg,
Can't help with the drysuit choice but the base layer problem is surmountable.
Polypropelene skin layer. The fibre is waterproof so it doesn't absorb any moisture. Rinsing and drying is quick. The older ones were a bit scratchy but the new ones are comfortable.

A spare micro-pile mid-layer doesn't weigh much either, even if it does take up a bit of storage space. They dry fairly quickly too.

I use polypro under my wetsuit, makes it much less unpleasant putting on a wet/damp wetsuit after a food break.
