Scott,

I agree with the comments on internal beams. I really liked being able to flip mine over to work on deck or hull with ease. It also made life easier when putting the project on hold for a few weeks: both halves went on the beam and i used ropes and clamps to keep them tight up against the forms and avoid any distortion. You really need to avoid having either part standing around your shop without the forms - they can bend out of shape and leave you struggling to join the two halves. Even once I had glassed the halves, I found them deforming without being on the forms!

Good luck - either way!
George

: Folks,

: I have just got my plans and am preparing to begin my Cape Ann Expedition -
: my first kayak project. I would like to hear the pros and cons of internal
: vs external stiff backs. I have an a box beam that I got from another
: kayak builder that cost me a six pack of Guiness and Bass which I helped
: him drink. Any guidance would be appreciated.
