In my area (San Francisco) the WRC, when you can find it, is air dried and 11/16 thick that was made from resawn stock ... so it's S3S. Compared to here, you piad a very good price. The really good stuff is well over $6/LF over here. I used the 11/16 stuff for my OI and it worked just fine ... no problems at all.

: I went to my local lumber yard and they had a nice selection of Western Red
: Cedar (no Atlantic or Northern...) in the barn.

: I picked through the pieces and got 6, 8 footers that I liked.

: Got it home and was setting up my table saw to cut strips and noticed that
: the boards were a little thin. They measured .68" thick not the
: expected .75".

: The poplar boards I got at the same time measured the full .75"

: I'm sure I can deal with the extra strips to add to the kayak, but should I
: feel cheated by the lumber yard? I haven't heard of 1X6's coming in at
: anything less than .75" thickness... Is this something that anyone
: else has run into? Is this a western red cedar association thing? The
: boards are great looking: smooth, straight grain, NO knots, but that all
: came for a price. I paid 23$ for each 8 foot 1X6.

: Thanks, Tim
