Several years ago I saw a book on using the Alaskan Mill. The author rigged two pulleys on the end of the guide bar, and used ropes or wire cables in them to pull the saw through the wood. He could stand away from the exhaust and flying chips. After the first slab cut he attached the pulley system to the end of the log and it worked the same way. Wish I could recall the author and title of the book. In the meantime, a respirator will keep you breathing better.

Yeah, these are slow, but they get the job done at a very reasonable investment in time and cash.
