I have seen the canoe scuppers and they work on a single surface so I think it is possible. I can't find that type in a google search but I will get a shot of the next one I see. I am familiar with the kayak Ken B. is speaking of and I think there must be an optimal calculation for the scupper to draw and that kayak was done by guestimating hole size and location.
