The venturi used on the Van Dusen is an off-the-shelf item. The manufacturer used to advertise in WoodenBoat but I have not seen the ad in a few years.

Otherwise a hole with a baffle in front of it and a cork that fits in the hole should work. The smaller the hole and the bigger the baffle, the more suction it will produce.
