Zylon is an advanced aramid fiber, a distant relative of Kevlar that's much stronger. It's manufactured by the Toyobo Company in Japan. It's been used on the Mars Rovers, tennis rackets, golf clubs, on sailboat rigging and sails and is mandatory for the cockpits of Formula 1 cars. It's also very heat and electrically resistant. It had been used for bullet proof vests but they had some issues in that application. I've been looking into the stuff for a little while now. I have a customer who wants to try some on race boat I'll be building for him this spring. Soller has plain Zylon cloth and as the CF hybrid. Stay tuned...
