Hey, how come a guy from Canada is even thinking about a posting from West Cork (Ireland., I assume) about an election in the US?

Of course 50 years ago where I used to live (Chicago) you guys could have voted as Democrats, as long as you were breathing and escorted to the polling place by a precinct captain. This would usually get you a free beer or whiskey. They needed to find live voters back then to balance out the (quite a few) votes being cast by "permanent residents" who were no longer breathing, but had physical addresses in the city's cemeteries.
