What I would do is to try to get an exact replacement for the old motor in terms of rpm, frame number and hp. The size of the pulley will have a lot to do with the output speed of the blade, but 1750 rpm motors are alot more common, and in case of doubt I would go with that speed. The type of motor you want is a TEFC, or totally enclosed fan cooled. This will keep sawdust etc. out of the windings. I have actually seen these run underwater. As for horsepower, this is a case where bigger is better, depending on your budget and whether the motor can be had in the correct frame. The frame size governs overall dimensions of the motor, mounting hole locations, and shaft size among other things. Keep in mind that a 1hp 120V motor will draw around six amps or more depending on the load. Try www.mcmaster-carr.com This is a huge catalog containing all sorts of goodies. Their prices are not really the best, but you can find just about anything you need in there. There is alot of information in this catalog, so even if you don't buy anything from them it is worth looking at it.

: Hi-

: I will be needing a new motor for a table saw. It's a venerable old Sears
: model, very heavily built, and has seen much work in it's previous life
: with Eric Schade. (Thanks Eric!).

: I looked up some motor vendors, and have a few questions: What rpm- 1725 or
: 3250?
: What hp rating is good for overall cutting? 1/2. 3/4, 1 hp?
: Enclosed or non-enclosed?
: Shaft diameter- 5/8" standard?
: Anything else I should look for?
: Anyone know a good source of inexpensive yet quality motors?

: Thanks!
