: Hi-

: I will be needing a new motor for a table saw. It's a venerable old Sears
: model, very heavily built, and has seen much work in it's previous life
: with Eric Schade. (Thanks Eric!).

: I looked up some motor vendors, and have a few questions: What rpm- 1725 or
: 3250?
: What hp rating is good for overall cutting? 1/2. 3/4, 1 hp?
: Enclosed or non-enclosed?
: Shaft diameter- 5/8" standard?
: Anything else I should look for?
: Anyone know a good source of inexpensive yet quality motors?

: Thanks!

Hi Jack,

I have an old Sears Craftsman 100, 10" table saw that I bought in the 60's, built like an out house. I replaced the motor last year when I started to build my first boat. I bought a motor with specks that matched the old motor. 5/8" shaft dia, 3250 RPM, enclosed, 1 HP and a one to one pulley ratio. I'm pretty sure I got it from Northern Tools in MN. As best I remember, it cost around $70+ and they had a 2 HP for about $20 more I think. I can't find any catalogs right now or I would look it up for you. The name of the motor is Marathon. If I was buying again I would buy the 2 HP.

John
