In Response To: Strip: Cutting a "patch" (Chas Bernstein)

: Last week I posted a question regarding a very "thin" piece of deck
: close to the bow of my Expedition Sport under construction caused by my
: inexperience of stripping. The feedback was to "patch" the thin
: section before glassing.

: What tools would board members recommend for cutting a triangular patch that
: can be filled with new strips? Chisels seem a bit neaderthal, a pull saw
: seems a bit clumsy and a router seems a bit risky. Any suggestions would
: be GREATLY appreciated!!

If your spot is thin but flush with the rest of the deck don't cut out the section.
You'll never match the wood color.

Glass the exterior and add wood or wood filler on the backside before you glass that.
