I modified my Coho with the recessed coaming. It was pretty easy. 1) Cut off old coaming. 2) Cut out crescent shaped piece from behind cockpit (I used the photos from Pygmies catalog as a guide). 3) Slit the joint in the outer deck seam for about 4 inches forward to allow the deck panels to twist flat. 4)Add the extra arc of reinforcing plywood under the deck. 5)Insert new crescent-shaped plywood piece. 6) Make and install new coaming.

In Pygmies catalog, there is a photo showing all the plywood pieces of an Arctic Tern before assembly. I used this photo to see what pieces I'd need to make.

It might be more difficult if you have an aft bulkhead installed. I hadn't put mine in yet, so no problem.

The whole operation took two weekends. Go for it!
