: From what I recall when this topic came up for kayaks, a suggestion was brass half-round on the stern and bow areas, continuing a foot or so along the keel line..the stern area seems to need the most protection, as this is the area that gets dragged when the boat is pulled up onto the beach, or the 1st part that touches the ground when the boat is taken off the roof rack, etc.

Brass is pretty soft, so you can drill pilot holes easily, through the brass, wood and epoxy prior to screwing it on. After drilling, apply some epoxy to the holes just before driving the screws, so that everything stays waterproof.
Should look really classy, with the brass accents.

P.S. any ideas why the panels shifted and why the epoxy was still soft? I used the cheap, clear plastic drink cups (100 7 oz. for a $1.59) rather than buying pumps to meter out the epoxy ... are you comfortable that the mix ratio is correct? Which brand epoxy are you using?
