I would suggest to do all of your outside wood sanding before starting and then be careful not to bruise the wood. The bruises will be dark when epoxied. If you sand after epoxing you will end up light spots where you sand through the epoxy into the wood. The wood under the cured epoxy does not soak up the epoxy like the bare wood does.

I masked the finished surface when I joined the front and back halves of the panels to avoid the discoloration from the epoxy smears. Worked great. CLC recommends rounding the mating corners between the panels. You should look at their site and click on "Shop Tips" since you doing S&G its a good read.
