Thanks - I'm very glad I've found this forum to toss ideas out into to see if they're sound.

I think I'll reconsider the sock... I hadn't really considered the possibility of getting tangled in it on an exit. That would not be good at all, and teh small risk of that would outweigh any potential benefit a newbie like me might gain from it.
