It is probably easiest to drop in pieces when using beveled edges. Depending on where in your deck you are placing a piece you might not need to give it much of a bevel, and it could very well be a constant bevel along the length of the strip. That makes these fast to shape. Anything which intersects a line of bead and cove strips is best made with a square edge, which you can bevel if you need to.

If you are using bead and cove over most of the boat, when you end that you'll need a piece which has a square edge on one side, and the other side would be either a bead or a cove. You can make these by ripping or planing off the unnecessary milled edge from some strips, or,you cna rip a bead and cove strip in half -- giving you TWO very narrow strips somewhere between 1/4 and 3/8th inhes wide. One will be square & bead and the other will be square & cove. I'm sure you'll find uses for both. If you select a very dark or very light colored wood for this yo cna use it as a solid wood "pinstripe" which can be a cool frame around your deck design.

Hope this helps
