Hi Charles,
Why not put a pulley block on the stem and stern board? Use good ones, they'll last years.
I put some in my baidarka and wish I had them in the greenlander. I use a single line with a stopper knot before I fasten to the airbags, that way the line stays in the block if it comes loose. The return line is brought back above the deck beams so it doesn't threaten my feet with entanglement. The extra line at the cockpit ends up in a small cloth pouch that I stuff between the deckbeams and the skin.
