A fun thread. I find it interesting how much the details such as this and (let us not forget) the great paddle contoversy of a couple of weeks ago, generate interest. The plethora of boat designs available leave little for the self-styled designer to aim for any more. We are better off building a tested design and avioding the embarrassment and disapointment of producing a lemon, so we put our stamp on our boats with deck designs, hatch shapes and cockpit variations. How great that we have these options. I think we still have an advantage of variety over mass produced plastic boats: where economy of scale necessitate huge production runs of identical boats.

It is great to be able to celebrate diversity.
