I don't see a problem as everything is epoxy saturated, including the join. We wet the butt edges thoroughly before pressing together and this allows epoxy to seep into the grain. The outside is epoxy covered. The real question is which way do the stresses go? Inwards so you want glass in the inside the stop inward bowing as the glass works in tension, not compression. Any glass specifically over the join on the outside isn't doing anything structually.
