Exactly. Kent is right on. Even with a deck shape and height of the Petrel, you'll have great results with this approach. You might need to modify your deck lines to make it work. My experience is that no additional floatation is needed on the paddles, but if you did, be careful as the swells then have an even better lever to tip you.

On an Explorer, I use the perimeter line to anchor the blades. You need some kind of hard line to stick them under. Greenlandic deck lines would be best.

Two paddles out is super stable. Be sure you have stout blades.
