GC, was: HPLC?

Hi,

I've been working for years with GC-analysis. However I've just been working with larger molecules which are easier... Luckily for my works the separation part is usually quite simple; lower temps (oven cooling to below room temps), different column types and length, different phases.

I'm sure you've been using the same things yourself. Sometimes GC stuff can be really, really annoying... Well I guess that's the same for all analyses.

Toni.

: It isn't HPLC...it's GC with a 4-valve heart-cut routine and a damned column
: that doesn't separate the components the way I want. I am trying to obtain
: CO2/CO results at the low ppm level after extracting them from an ethylene
: balanced gas mixture. The CO2 peak is too damned close to the huge
: ethylene peak so I am having a tough time getting separation. To make
: matters worse, the ethylene is carrying over into the mole sieve and
: contaminating successive runs, thus over-running the CO2 peak. Acht! To
: make matters worse, I have three columns in this mixture to tangle with.
: If I could just see how things were transpiring inside the columns before
: they run through the mole sieve and methanizer (yep, the methanizer is the
: big problem, can't run C2+'s through it), then I'd know better how to set
: this mess up. That said, I think I have to get rid of the PLOT-Q column
: and get a Carbon Plot column.

: Does that answer your question?

: Sigh!
