I've paddled every kayak the local dealer has well except for the SOT's and the tiny rec boats. I volunteer as a safety boat for the dealer so can borrow any boat he's got and do so quite often. There are just many home built designs I've never paddled so it's hard to make comparisons. It takes a fair amount of time to do this. Paddling for 5 minutes doesn't give you much of a feel for how a boat handles. There is a real limit to the amount of time that a person has afterall :)
