I have a question about wood colors. I am close to the point where I will start milling my strips. I want to use Cedar, and possibly some pine for lighter accents. I want to attempt a pattern very like that on the Cover of The Strip Built Sea Kayak.

So my question is about color. How do you determine what the color will look like once it is is glassed? I really would like there to be a contrast between the woods. I'm pretty sure I can use pine for the lightest strips, I am just curious about how to select the darker woods in the raw form.
