I would definitely do a seal coat (the actual term as Bill mentioned) I have built 8 boats, and on the couple that I didn't do a seal coat I ended up with some strip print through. The seal coat seems to penetrate into the seams and locks them in better than glue alone, and after letting it cure and then sanding prior to glassing I end up with better integrity. At least in my boat :-)
