Biggest argument about converting is the supposed cost of changing all the roadsigns. I think that is totally bogus. My personal campaign is to lobby states to pass a law which would require them to *include* metric measures on any NEW signs they put up. Cost of making the signs is practically the same. Labor to put it up is identical. Eventually the old signs would rust away and be replaced. Until that time, we would be building awareness of metric distances between towns and exits, and metric speeds. Since NAFTA we have opened our roads (in theory) to Canadian and Mexican drivers. That trend is increasing, and for road safety we should be displaying signs with useful information.
